# Ahrefs

> Let Marketing read keyword ideas, backlinks, rankings, and competitors' top pages from Ahrefs for SEO work. Read only. Coming soon.

Status: Coming soon

Ahrefs is an SEO tool. Once you connect it, Marketing can look up what people search for, which pages rank, and who links to whom, and use it in SEO briefs, competitor notes, and content plans instead of guessing.

> [!SOON]
> The Ahrefs integration is Coming soon. This page describes how it will work. The integrations open at launch are GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket.

## Which assistants use it

| Assistant | Status |
| --- | --- |
| [Marketing](/docs/personas/marketing) | Coming soon |

## What assistants can do

Ahrefs connects through Ahrefs' own hosted server, and it is read only.

| Ability | How it runs |
| --- | --- |
| Research keywords and search intent | Reads on its own |
| Read backlinks, rankings, and competitors' top pages | Reads on its own |
| Anything that would change your Ahrefs projects or lists | Never run from chat |

## Setup (when it opens)

1. In Ahrefs, open **Account settings** and choose **Generate MCP key**. Use the MCP key: other Ahrefs keys do not work here.
2. Open [Integrations](https://stellarfirm.ai/app/integrations) in StellarFirm and pick Ahrefs.
3. Paste the MCP key, switch on the live option, and press Connect.

## Permissions

- Nothing here waits for an Approve because nothing here changes data.
- Your Ahrefs plan needs API access, and each lookup uses your plan's API units. Ask for a focused lookup to keep the count low.
- Revoke the MCP key in Ahrefs whenever you want to cut access.

## Good to know

- Name the site, the country, and the topic. "Keywords for invoicing software in Germany" beats "some keywords".
- Marketing says where every number came from and never invents search volumes or rankings.

## Prompts to try

```prompt title="Keyword gap"
Marketing, find the keywords our two closest competitors rank for in Ahrefs that we do not, and draft an SEO brief for the best one.
```

```prompt title="Top pages"
Marketing, list the ten pages on our site with the most organic traffic in Ahrefs and say which ones need a refresh.
```
